A quick look back...gonna go through the days and see ehat I can remember.
Sunday July 2
* Flights to North Bend. Flight to Denver was pretty chill, had a mid communter jet. Ate at Snooze in terminal 2 and had sausage sandwich on pretzel bun and some good pancakes. Lots of golfers, felt like a frat party. Flight outta Denver was nuts, took off over Boulder and straight over the Rockies into a baby thunderstorm. Flying into clouds was trippy, would go straight into it and would start getting bumps. Watched The Whale and thought it had real world problems, good acting, but if someone else was "playing the indian" in a fat suit, I would be pretty pissed. Landing was crazy, felt like we were controlled crashing into the tarmac with some big side winds on the shore. Grampa picked us up, 30 min drive into town, caught up with fam and ate some dungeness crab they caught earlier.
* Good reconnecting with all the relatives. First time we've seen Jeff and Amy/Jack since the wedding. Nothing was mentioned at all about their absence.
* Grampa again and again with the "it's so good to see you and Tiff" a lot today and throughout the trip.
* Slow cooked pork sandwiches for dinner. Was pretty good. Topped it off with some salty potato chips.
* Kinda turned in early for the night, was pretty tired from all the travel. Zoned out watching American Pie 2 and the beginning of American Pie 3. Tiny Tim had a taco bed, not the greatest but slept hard anyways.
Monday July 3
* Played Bandon Preserve Par 3 golf course. Never gonna play another sixsome ever again. Amazing views and wind kicked our ass all over the place. Lots of elevation, big grass hills that ran ball up to the green.
Had a moment of spiritual awareness over the 10th hole? thought about all the other indigenous members that had been near the Oregon coast for many other years.
Pretty fun times with the relatives, played lots of cornhole in the backyard. I think overall there was some weird feelings with Jack, Tiff and I suspect. He was nice enough but didn't say tanything to us for most of the visit.
*Fried fish from one of the fish houses, amazing. Coulda had more tartar sauce I think. I'll never get fish and chips that good for a while.
* Kinda hard to reflect now about what was going on for the rest of the night. We had early birthday party for Grandma K, chocolate sheet cake, fam members gave some gifts of a wine bottle, nice bag.
Tuesday July 4
4th of July Bandon parade, family hangs, and pioneer cemetery fireworks
*Woke up 8 ish, went into town with Tiff. Got a jalapeno bagel and some sailor jacks at Bandon Bakery. Beat the rush of all the rest of town before the parade. Wandered over to the Market Warehouse, saw another cool coffee shop, really nice food store, reclaimed plastic artwork, thought about some cool clothes.
*Parade in the morning. Heard a big beagle barking at everyone before. Met with family near the outside of the town area. Parade was only 30 minutes, started with biplanes flying overhead, and then a march of the emergency vehicles at the start. Lots of kids running in for cheap candy. My favorite part were all the horses, big and small, and the happy dogs running everywhere. Took lots of photos of the fam on the side.
*Tiff and I got some seafood lunch at Tony's. Amazing crab cocktail, fish taco, slaw, and some of the best bay shrimp I've ever had in my life, it was as fresh as it gets. Watched some boat races, kids bringing homemade cardboard/duct tape/wax vessels that they oared in competition with other kids. Some kids had really unseaworthy boats and sank 10 yards from the shore.
*Wandered over to the shore. Was very foggy. Somewhat breathtaking for me, hadn't been near the ocean again in a long time. Was having a lot of visual distortion, any time I looked too far in the distance it made me have spatial awareness issues and feel overwhelmed. Happened a few times over at the shore. Sometimes just had to put my head down and regain my center focus. We walked back up the hill, chilled for a bit at hotel room. Went to McKays Market across the street with water and kombucha in mind and ended up buying fried chicken. Hung out quickly with Tiff before we walked back to town over to Face Rock Creamery. Ate lots of cheese, the hybrid with cow/sheep's milk was the tastiest. I got an herby mac and cheese and tiff got a scoop of raspberry cheesecake. Went to Bandon Rain and got a few pours of cider. Walked over to house for the 4th party.
* Went in
graveyard with Jeff to go check out some of the headstones. Awareness of
bodies underneath me. Saw some Native graves, the Mecum family. Went
out later and poured out a Modela for them when I visited with Tiff
later. Read about Sir Bennett, founder of Bandon, some dude who left his
family back home in Ireland, founded the settlement around 1850s,
introduced goarse to the ecosystem, partially responsible for the 2
major fires that burned down Bandon in early 1900s.
*Burgers and more cornhole in the backyard. Josh and I had the most epic game against Jim and Michael, came down to both of us being able to score 21, but we somehow clenched it out. My shooting was on point. I shoulda only had one burger but I ended up with two. Jim burnt his finger because the guys ended up making the grill too hot.
*Played southern Jeff Foxworthy version of Cards Against Humanity, punch lines or something? Had a few good laughs even if the game was simple and somewhat crude and contrived. Funniest punchline? If you unbuttoned that, everything would come spilling out like a Navy Seal raft. Something like that. Grandma actually won it, had the sauciest of the punchlines the entire game. Was fun playing with Marylin, even if she didn't completely get what was going on and Tiff had to help her out.
*
Fireworks over the harbor kinda tripped me out. Had big ol emotional
cry, was feeling kinda travel stressed, spacial weariness of trees,
having those feelings like gravity was gonna let us go into space.
Watching big fireworks over harbor was a crazy feeling. There was fog,
and the light was somewhat diffused. Lots of supplemental illegal
fireworks going down in other parts of the town.
*Ended up walking home super late, we put in over 20K steps. Lots of firework smoke and stench coming up the hill towards our hotel 😝
Wednesday July 5
Family leaves, One last beach walk with Grampa and Grandma, moving on to Eugene. Weather was much sunnier at the shore this time, although the fog came back by the end of it. Grampa sat near the entry on some driftwood while me Tiff and Grandma walked like a quarter mile down the shore. Saw a guy catch some sole,
Thursday July 6
Walking date downtown and campus w Tiff
Friday July 7
Trip to Oregon Country Fair
Woke 8ish, another yogurt, French press, bagel for breakfast. Cloudy outside, kinda chilly but burnt off after 12pm. Drove to Valley River Center, met up w/ Jill's friend Andrea, someone she met at the dog park. She had her gf, forgot her name. They are smokers, from Nebraska, both do social work. Waited in bus line for a long time, kept seeing this girl w bangs and pink skirt that reminded me of lead from Derry Girls. Ended up on bus with her right in front of me. Trip over to fair took 30ish min, Oregon Country Fair is an independent deal out in Veneta, first impressions were all the aerialists, lots of boobs, lots of costume, smells of dirt, naturey colognes, people that remind me of Alaska from the railyards. Felt like we soent a lot of the time just constantly checking on each other and trying to stay together. Ended up at a massive drum circle, was kinda fun dancing a bit. Ate a $14 veg calzone that reminded me of the breggos from Amante and washed it w/ a sugary pink lemonade. Everything there was probably wicked overpriced, made me want to just eat at home all over again. Hard to describe the aesthetic but it was handpainted, tye dye, wood art, crystal, self help, Buddhist, New Agey, everything hippies love all over the place. Honestly though felt good vibes and was fun to be there, probably up until we got tired at the end. Got separated for a while and Tiff and I found probably my fav part, a sauna like structure that had Tinglit artwork all over. Waited in line for a Thai Iced tea but then was told they sold out right as we got to the counter. Reunited with Jill at this area called the community village. Spent more time ealking around all the trails, bought a $9+$1 tip cheese blintz that was ok but again wicked overpriced. Tiff got a banana oat milk oce cream w/ passionfruit that was much more worth the value. Sat at a stage for a bit, did more walkint, sun was really shining everywhere at that point. At the bus home now, Jill asked if we woukd come back, said "maybe" and remarked about all the cost of the food and how long we waited for the bus. Had thoughts all over that I feel ready to get back to my own workd. Always have some fantasy about being energized to write new music, do mire art, work on building my own world like I should. Need to stop caring about relying on having people recognize what I do, I should just be tuned into doing what I need to do. Teenage girls in front of me on bus ride talking all about plans when they turn 21. Talking about big festival in Seattle for lesbians and queers only.
